Our Rich History
Since 1855, Grace Episcopal Church has stood as a beacon of faith, compassion, and architectural beauty in the heart of downtown Madison. Nestled at the corner of West Washington Avenue and Carroll Street, Grace is more than a church—it’s a living monument to community, service, and spiritual depth.
Through war and peace, depression and revival, Grace has welcomed generations of worshippers, hosted countless baptisms, weddings, and funerals, and extended care to the most vulnerable in our city. Its Gothic Revival architecture, stained glass windows, and soaring steeple are woven into the fabric of Madison’s civic and spiritual identity.
Recognized on the National Register of Historic Places, Grace is a sacred space that belongs not just to those who worship here—but to the entire community.
As we undertake the restoration of our original slate roof, we honor not only the legacy of those who built and preserved this sanctuary, but also our shared commitment to protect it for generations to come.
